Unreal Tournament 3 characters

These are the characters I made for the Epic Games' "Make Something Unreal" contest phase 2.

I didn't win anything. In fact I didn't even go to the finals. I think it happened because what could be my biggest  quality was my greatest fail: My character had custom animations. I didn't use the default skeleton provided by epic games because I wanted a "pulsing" animation on the character's muscles. It worked quite well on the character customization menu, but in game it was a crap! I didn't finish all the required animations and some of the ones I made didn't work...

But I've learned lots of things doing them. Not only about modeling, rigging, animating and texturing - in the game engine, which is totally different from texturing on max - but I've learned that sometimes the simple way is the best way to do the things right. I say this because, after it was too late, I noticed there was a way to do the animation I wanted for the menu and use the default skeleton for the game, what would have saved me a lot of work and fix things up, but I was so focused on making all the animations I didn't see that before...

I made three variations of a base character: a muscular guy I had modeled on 3DS Max course, on the edge loop class. The first one is Bane, from batman comics. I was easy as I just had to put a mask on him and a tube coming from his hand to the back of his neck...

The second is a new one. I put a giant spider on his back and invented a background story that it was an alien spider who chased someone who, until then, was a normal civilian injecting him it's ultra anabolic venon and using him as it's "vehicle"... I called him Adam.

And the last one was the easiest... I just painted the guy green and there was Hulk...

A long time ago...

Back there in 2005 I graduated at FATEC-Mauá in Informatics with emphasis in business management. And because of that I had to do a graduation work which should be about both themes of the course: information technology and business management. Hard task!

The solution I found was to develop a game to put in practice what I had learned about programming and write a monograph about the video-game market which should be about business management. I really didn't know the trouble I put myself in - Yet.

So, After 3 months in hell (I say this because I had these 3 months to learn how to model in 3D, program, illuminate, make the textures, animate, develop the whole game while writing a hundred plus page monograph ...). The result is what you see next: An FPS that takes place on the college building where the main characters are myself and my classmates, who gently agreed making part of the project.

Please keep in mind that it was the first time I tryied to do some "3D stuff" (to have an idea, there are some things I modeled in AutoCad, because I had never heard about 3DS Max...)

No menu de escolha do personagem, ninguém menos que EU!!!

At the character menu, no one less then MYSELF!!!

On the opening scene, the front of the college building, highlighting the neighborhood...

A high level enemy to be defeated...

O jogo pode ser baixado clicando aqui. A senha de acesso é 'fatec'.

The game is available to downloa here. The access password is 'fatec'.

There is another little game I've done in Visual Basic, back there at the college times:

It's a classic One Left Game. There is even a hidden function on the clock on which the program tries to play by it self (but it never wins...). This game can also be downloaded here. The password is the same as above.
